About Tia Cherry

my name is

Tia Cherry

And I am the principal psychotherapist for Axia Therapy Services.

A little about me.

I am a qualified psychotherapist with approximately 20 years of clinical experience working in the public mental health system (adult community mental health and Child Adolescent Mental Health Service) and in private practice where I worked predominantly with adolescents, including those identifying as LGBTIQ who were experiencing a range of mental health issues.

In 2015, I decided to apply for entry in the Master of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy at Flinders University. At the time, I was working in adult community mental health and noticed that many of my clients diagnosed with a psychotic illness continued to experience poor mental health, due to comorbid diagnoses of depression or anxiety. Due to financial constraints, this client group was unable to access private therapeutic services and this was the motivation for me to return to study. I have successfully completed the degree and as a qualified psychotherapist am able to use CBT to help clients understand how distorted thinking patterns or negative thinking (negative cognitions) contributes to psychological distress
